That Adobe AI audio headline you saw has the product backwards, and the difference matters if sound is how you make a living. Last week Adobe made Generate Music, Generate Speech and Generate Sound Effects generally available in Firefly, added a free tier of its AI Assistant, and pulled Kling, Luma, Runway and OpenAI into the same app. Everyone is arguing about whether it sounds any good. Read Adobe's own announcement and you'll notice they barely make a quality claim at all. What they make is this one: "commercially safe," "ready for finished work," no separate subscription, and no time spent hunting for a track you're allowed to use. Not better. Cleared. That's the actual displacement, and it's worth being precise about it. Library music never won on artistry. Stock effects never won on artistry. They won on being cleared, being fast, and nobody getting a phone call from a rights holder eighteen months later. Adobe just undercut that on price and put it inside the app you already pay for. Which is the asset half of the job. Here is the half it did not touch: nothing in that announcement can sit in a room and take a note, or hear a scene and know it needs to feel anxious but not scary (and then know that's a low room tone and a clock, not a music cue. Spotting is judgement. Coming back with the right thing is a relationship. So if you sell assets, this is a bad week and you should price like it. If you sell judgement and a revision loop, that just got scarcer) and it should be on the invoice by name, where a client can see it. What's the note you've been given that no generator could ever act on? Give me the real one, in the words the director actually used. I read every reply., -
Read their own copy. It's selling cleared.
Firefly's Generate Music, Generate Speech and Generate Sound Effects are now generally available to everyone, plus a free tier of its AI Assistant.
Everyone's having the wrong argument
Whether it sounds good was never the fight. Read Adobe's own announcement, they barely make a quality claim at all.
Here's their actual pitch
"Commercially safe." "Ready for finished work." No separate subscription, no hunting for a track you're allowed to use. Not better. Cleared.
That's what moves work
Library music never won on artistry. Stock effects never won on artistry. They won on being cleared and fast. Adobe just undercut that.
The half it didn't touch
Nothing in that release sits in a room and takes a note, or hears a scene and knows it needs room tone and a clock, not a music cue.
So price accordingly
Sell assets, this is a bad week. Sell judgement and a revision loop, that just got scarcer. Put it on the invoice by name.
What's the note no generator could act on?
Give me the real one, in the director's actual words.
