The CEO of one of the biggest AI labs just admitted nobody trusts his industry.
And he said the criticism is fair.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei posted, in public, that his industry has a 'crisis of trust', and that the criticism is fair.
"Cooking Up Some New Way To Screw Them Over"
That's how Amodei says people see the industry. Airbnb's CEO said almost the same thing days later, the products aren't good enough yet for regular people.
The Real Numbers
52% of Americans are more concerned than excited about AI, up from 37% in 2021. Over 70% think it's moving too fast. Most people under 35 don't trust the people running these companies.
Where I Sit In This
I didn't touch this stuff for a long time either. I don't think that was me being behind, I think it was me being reasonable.
My Honest Take
Your skepticism was never the problem. Use it for the specific thing it's actually good at. Verify the output. Don't trust it more than the people building it trust themselves.
That's Not Fear
That's just paying attention. The people running the labs just told you your instinct was right.
