I saw a filmmaker get personally attacked this week (for saying one word out loud. AI. Not for posting an AI video. Just for mentioning it. In a group of thousands of people trying to make a living doing exactly this job. Here's the reframe: the guy who said the word wasn't actually the problem in that room. A few comments down, in that same thread, somebody told the real story) a production company he worked for decided overnight, no warning, that every show they made would be AI-generated from now on. That already happened. To someone in that room. I get why people went after him instead of that. Because I've been in that exact headspace (scared, defensive, wanting to believe if I just didn't look at it, it wouldn't touch the thirty-plus years I've put into this business. George Lucas said something a couple weeks ago that stuck with me. He compared resisting AI in filmmaking to resisting the automobile because you loved your horse and carriage. Said there's nothing you can do about it) it's just the future. Love it or hate it, he's not wrong that it's already here. So I've got two choices. Put my head in the sand and pretend this business still works exactly the way it did when I started thirty years ago. Or actually learn this thing closely enough to know what's real, what's not, and what's still worth protecting. I'm choosing the second one. Not because I've got it figured out (I don't. Has this already happened in your shop) the sudden "we're all AI now"?
