DaVinci Resolve 21 just shipped, here's what's actually new.
Blackmagic just shipped DaVinci Resolve 21, one of the biggest updates in the software's history. Most "biggest update ever" claims are marketing. I don't think this one is.
AI isn't new here
Resolve's had an AI engine since version 16. What's new in 21 is how much more of it there is.
Find any shot instantly
IntelliSearch finds a specific shot across your whole timeline by describing it in plain language. No more scrubbing for twenty minutes.
Captions and focus, automated
Voice to Subtitle auto-captions at roughly 90-95% accuracy on clear dialogue. CineFocus lets you rack-focus after the shoot, in the edit itself.
The rest of the suite
AI Face Age Transformer, Face Reshaper, Blemish Removal, UltraSharpen upscaling, plus an upgraded engine that makes Magic Mask and Speed Warp better too.
The catch
None of this replaces a real edit decision. It removes the busywork between you and the decision. Know the difference.
Worth Testing Again
Free-tier AI that's actually gotten a lot bigger.
